October 30: A Night in Lima at 18 Reasons

A Night in Lima at 18 Reasons

A Night in Lima at 18 Reasons

It’s been an eventful summer for Pisco Trail — from road trips and Wild West Whisky adventures in Leadville, to a Peruvian Independence Day dinner in New Orleans, and my first live TV cooking demo, I am finally back in San Francisco after spending two weeks rediscovering my Love for Lima, Peru. Which means it’s time for another Peruvian Pop-up Dinner at 18 Reasons!

Join me for A Night in Lima at 18 Reasons, an intimate seated dinner for 20 people on October 30 at 7 PM, where I will be serving two courses: Carapulcra, a very traditional papa seca stew with heritage pork and Mazamorra Morada, a sweet purple corn pudding.

Throughout the evening I will be talking about the history of these dishes, while a background slide-show presents photographs from my recent trip to Peru. And of course a criollo dinner would not be complete without some Afro-Peruvian tunes playing on the radio.

It’s great to be back in SF, and I am really looking forward to cooking for you again 18 Reasons!

Lima Love

Lima Love — Graffiti Art in the Streets of Lima, Peru

Let me tell you about Lima, and the magic in its streets during the winter. The magic manifested the moment I arrived from San Francisco, as the airplane dipped through the clouds that covered the entire coastal City of the Kings, as if entering a world that is off map, that can only be found if you know its secret location. With no rain, and little sunlight, days and nights can be cool, but no matter where I was, it was always time for a cafe con leche, a savory bite, a sweet treat, or a Pisco cocktail that warmly welcomed me to the city where I was born.

One of the many reasons I enjoy attending IFBC is that I always leave inspired to try something new. And after this years sessions I am committing to working on 3 new things for Pisco Trail over the next 12 months:

  1. make cocktail videos
  2. write about popular trends
  3. explore analytics to understand traffic

The overall goal at the end of the 12 months? To increase the traffic to Pisco Trail, increase the number of followers on Twitter, and increase the number of fans on Facebook. Simple, right?

IFBC 2013 Seattle: Part 2

Wine Tasting + Pairing Sessions at IFBC

Wine Tasting + Pairing Sessions at IFBC

Focusing on food, writing, and technology, the IFBC is truly a one of a kind conference. And I am not surprised that the weekend that included great sessions, hilarious cooking demos, meals with new friends, bountiful bites provided by local chefs, and wonderful wine from Bordeaux and Washington, just flew by.

All weekend long, I felt like I was in school, carrying my Pisco Trail notebook with me, and taking meticulous notes on the topics being presented by different speakers. Friday’s technology session on building traffic for your blog, reassured me that there is still lots of work to be done. While Saturday’s food and wine pairing sessions, fueled my passion for grapes, after all, Pisco is 100% grapes. With all the drinking we did that afternoon, it definitely felt like school.

IFBC 2013 Seattle

IFBC 2013 Seattle

Pisco Trail is back from a 2 week culinary adventure in Peru, and I have many stories to share with you. But first, I need to get ready for the upcoming International Food Blogger Conference in Seattle this weekend. This post is the first of a 3-part series on this year’s IFBC 2013.

My first IFBC was 3 years ago in New Orleans, and instantly I felt that I had arrived home. Where else could I meet others who wanted to do nothing else than talk about food and drinks? Well, not just talk, also sample local treats, attend cooking demos, learn about food photography, brush up on our tech and SEO skills, and paint the town wine-red. That’s right, nowhere else.
